Hi! My name is Jennifer. I was born with Turner syndrome in 1972, but that did not stop me! I did not have any obvious signs of TS at birth. I was much smaller than kids my age. Eye hand coordination and spatial awareness was a challenge for me. I did well in school and enjoyed reading and writing.
I was diagnosed at 16, when I did not physically mature as expected. I felt different at first. It is difficult to receive a diagnosis at any age but being diagnosed as a teenager has its unique challenges.
I gained confidence as I became older, and did not let Turner syndrome define me. I have not had a lot of health concerns due to TS but have some minor lymphedema. I had recurring childhood ear infections, and I now use hearing aids. I set a goal of being an elementary teacher, and I graduated from college with a teaching degree. I have taught 2nd grade for over 20 years.
I met my wonderful husband Gary in 2006, and we married about a year later. We welcomed our amazing daughter Ella through the miracle of adoption in 2013. I love being a wife, mom, teacher, and volunteer at church. I enjoy hanging out with friends, and I love New Kids on the Block! I have recently joined the TSSUS online social time, and enjoy it! I would love to attend a TSSUS conference in the future! I hope you find something in my story that inspires you!
