I'm So Glad God Chose Me to be Her Momma - by Athena Ramirez's Mom

Athena is a twin to her brother Adonis. They are now 5. We found out Athena had Turner syndrome (TS) when I was 26 weeks pregnant. Before finding out, we had genetic testing at 14 weeks where they told us they saw something "wrong" with Baby B and we should consider selective termination. That was NEVER an option for even a moment.

After weeks of extensive testing and continuous suggestions of termination from the doctor, they brought us in a room, sat us at a small table, and told us "it's ok, your daughter has Turner syndrome". I had no idea what that was or what that meant, but I felt a sigh of relief. I’m not sure exactly why because she wasn't out of the water yet with some of the complications they were talking about. But it was like a big weight was lifted.

The day Athena was born, we had a slew of doctors in the operating room with us as they were sure she would be rushed off to the NICU. Come to find out, our little firecracker was perfect. She was checked out and given the okay to come into the room with her brother and me.

To this day, this little girl never ceases to amaze me. Every time someone tells me she will have difficulties; she fights to prove them wrong. She was born a fighter. She is the funniest, most loveable, spunkiest Kick Rock little firecracker and I'm so glad God chose me to be her momma. This is just the beginning of the story of Athena!
